18 Things Every 18 Year Old Should Know (Part 2 of 2)

18 things every 18 year old should know

If you haven’t read part 1 of 18 Things Every 18 Year Old Should Know be sure to read it first – click here.

Alright, let’s continue.

10) Write things down

Don’t try to remember everything.

I note something down every single day.

From a name of a new person I’ve just met (they are delighted next time I see them and I’ve remembered their name especially if its a name which is difficult to pronounce), something I need to remember, to my shopping list or something I’ve just learned.

When I made something wrong or could’ve done something better, I write it down and have it saved on my phone as long as it takes to not repeat this mistake again.

If I have some idea for my next blog post I write it down on my iPhone (it’s far more convenient to write it down on your mobile phone than carrying a pen and paper everywhere with you).

You never know when you will get your next idea but most of the time it’s when you’re in motion and doing something.

Ideas rarely come to you when you’re sitting on your couch.

So next time you meet someone at the gym or need to remember something just write it down on your phone.

11) Traveling

This world has so many beautiful places to offer.
Traveling really broadens your horizon.
No matter which country I’ve visited, it always made me richer of experiences and gave me many ’’wow-moments’’.
If you don’t travel you’re really missing out on something.
Not traveling is like reading only one page of a book.
I personally want to know how life is on the other side of the world.
Hearing or reading about all those great places is not enough, you have to see those places, try new food and talk with the locals to understand their culture.
The city in which you are living right now might be a great location but there’s a big chance you’ll find a place on this planet you even like more.

Don’t travel every year to the exact same place again and again.

Go and visit some new country or even a new continent.

You don’t have to be rich to travel the world.

If you want to travel to Southeast Asia the only expensive thing you need to buy is the flight ticket.

Food and apartments there are way cheaper than in Europe or America.

Don’t listen to other people who tell you horror stories about the countries you want to visit only because they are scared to visit those places by themselves.

Make yourself a picture.

12) Eat healthily

I try to eat 95% clean and once in a while something little ’’dirty’’.

Since I have changed to a plant-based diet I eat way more vegetables than I have ever eaten before and buy nearly no processed foods.

I would never force someone to change to a vegan diet, because everyone’s responsible for themselves, and everyone has to find out what works best for them.

What works out for me may not work out for you.

For example, I drink a the same smoothie every morning since 3 years and I know this would be too boring for most other people.

BUT I know that eating vegetables works out good for everyone.

You may feel good now but if you’re not eating your veggies you’re missing out feeling even better by getting all those vitamins and minerals.

Here some simple tips for the next time you’re buying fruits and vegetables :

  • As far as its possible buy seasonally and locally.
  • Get fruits and vegetables from all different colors – green, orange, red, yellow and so on (you’re shopping cart should look like a rainbow – consisting out of healthy food, not Skittles and M&M’s).
  • Eat every day at least 3 portions of greens like kale, spinach, broccoli and so on (normal salad doesn’t have so many nutrients so you can leave it away) and 2 portions of fruits (fruit juice doesn’t count).
  • If you have the choice between normal and organic food, choose organic (especially if it costs only 30 cents more).
  • Wash well all your food before eating it.

I like to consume vegetables in a convenient green smoothie.

13) Have a morning and an Evening routine

I wrote an entire post about why having a morning and an evening routine is important.

So go and check it out :

14) Begin to save money

Don’t spend your money on expensive brands only because the product has some fancy logo on it.

It makes sense to invest a little more in certain technical products, or some products which improve your health and wealth, but not on expensive t-shirts, sweaters or belts to impress others.

When I was 18 I spend too much money on certain brands instead of saving it to travel.

Thank god I have learned from those mistakes.

15) Be true to your word

Be authentic and always do what you say.

Don’t preach water and drink wine.

If you promise something, then you have to do it.

If you don’t want to do something then just say ”No”.

Don’t lose the trust of people by always breaking your promises otherwise, they won’t take you seriously anymore.

16) Don’t blame other people for your failures

Save the drama for your mama.

If something goes wrong, look at what you could’ve done better before blaming others.

If someone has let you down, it’s your fault that you put your trust in them.

Don’t give your fortune in other peoples hands and then be surprised if something goes not the way you wished it would’ve gone.

Next time take full responsibility for the situation to get the results you want and you won’t be disappointed by someone else.

Don’t play the victim to circumstances you created.

Handle it like a boss and not like a little girl.

Stay calm and do your thing.

17) Learn from the Greats

If you want to be rich, find someone who is rich.

If you want to become a successful actor, reach out to successful actors.

If you dream of becoming a basketball player, learn from Kobe Bryant or Michael Jordan.

No matter if you read about them, write, meet or call them personally you can always find a way to absorb their knowledge.

You can’t copy them, but you can take lessons from them and use them for your own needs.

Don’t allow yourself to think that you know everything and you don’t need anyone to give you some advice.

Speak with people who are more experienced than you are and you will always learn something new.

They might give you some new ideas or help you to turn your ideas into reality.

If you are the most intelligent person in the room, you are in the wrong room.

Surround yourself with people who are more successful in the certain area than you are and you can become great at anything you desire.

I get inspiration from people like Arnold Schwarzenegger, Mike Tyson, Conor McGregor, Alexander the GreatMarlon Brando and even fictional characters like Rocky Balboa. Don’t read, listen or watch the news

I quit reading the newspaper many years ago and I haven’t missed anything.

Why should I read about mass shooting, terror, rape, racism or some nonsense celebrity gossip?

The news takes the most extreme examples and makes you believe you could get shot or raped anytime at any corner.

That’s what they do, they make you worry about those things and bring you negativity as if you don’t have enough other things to think about.

If you read the news what do you remember afterward?

The good or the bad news?

Mostly the bad news.

Am I interested in who Justin Bieber or Lady Gaga is dating? Nope and the same should apply to you.

If something huge is happening in this world, believe me, you will hear about it from other people.

Instead of reading the paper in the underground begin to listen to some great podcasts.

I can recommend The Joe Rogan Experience and The Tim Ferriss Show.

Until next time,
