First of all in this article there won’t be a winner or loser.
Matcha and coffee both have their strengths.
Let’s take a look at matcha.
Matcha contains the amino acid called L-Theanine which helps your body to process caffeine and create a feeling of calm alertness.
Matcha boosts your metabolism by increasing thermogenesis which helps you burn fat.
This doesn’t mean you will get lean and a Sixpack by sipping matcha tea, but its a good support for your diet if you want to burn some calories.
Matcha provides fiber, vitamin A and vitamin C.
Matcha has much more antioxidants than coffee.
According to research matcha is gram for gram one of the most powerful antioxidant in nature.
This is probably the biggest benefit from drinking matcha compared to coffee.
The antioxidants fight against your free radicals in your body which protects you from getting a disease and they also fight against the process of aging.
Matcha helps you regulate blood sugar, lower blood pressure, maintain healthy cholesterol levels and detoxify the blood.
I tried many matcha powders and find this Matcha to be the best quality for your money.
Matcha’s benefits sound great now let’s check out coffee.
For myself, coffee’s greatest advantage is that it’s caffeine drastically improves my physical performance when I work out for example.
Caffeine blocks an inhibitory neurotransmitter called adenosine in the brain, which leads to a stimulant effect. This improves energy levels, mood and various aspects of brain function.
Of course, matcha contains caffeine as well but you won’t notice any big difference if you will drink it before your workout because some components (like the mentioned L-Theanine) slow down the release of caffeine into the body.
I always drink a double espresso half an hour before I hit the gym which increases adrenaline levels.
I just like the ritual of making my coffee with the DeLonghi and the pleasant smell.
Coffee is next to my MacBook while writing this post and helps me for productivity.
Studies show that coffee drinkers have a much lower risk of getting type II diabetes, Alzheimer“s disease, or developing Parkinson“s disease.
Coffee has shown to have a positive effect on depression.
Coffee contains essential Nutrients like Riboflavin, Pantothenic Acid, Manganese, Potassium, Magnesium, and Niacin.
Side effects of coffee
If the caffeine in coffee makes you jittery you have 4 options:
1. Drink only half of the cup.
2. Eat more before drinking it (don’t drink it on an empty stomach).
3. Maybe you get jittery because your coffee has a high percentage of Robusta beans (which contain more caffeine than arabica beans). So you should check which kind of blend you have and might change to 100% Arabica Beans
4. Drink matcha tea instead.
All in all, if you want to have the advantages of matcha AND coffee I recommend you to drink coffee on days of sportive activity and the other
days’matcha tea or you alternate between both-one week matcha and the next week coffee.
This will help you not to get resistant to the high amount of caffeine in coffee and will show you which of those two drinks work better for you.
